MTV Unplugged Channel: twenty one pilots' Session Released

In exciting news for fans of alternative pop-rock duo twenty one pilots, their delayed MTV Unplugged session has been released before brand new music. After a couple leaks, the live album was officially announced on March 31 for an April 21 release.

The band's frontman, Tyler Joseph, had hinted that they would be releasing new music following the conclusion of their seventh studio album, Scaled and Icy. In an interview with iHeart's DC101, Joseph mentioned that he had been pushing to get the MTV Unplugged EP released later in the year, citing the amount of work that went into it as reason enough for fans to enjoy it after the one-time performance.

The MTV Unplugged session was recorded at The Exchange in Los Angeles, CA, and features a unique non-traditional approach. Instead of simply playing acoustic versions of their songs, twenty one pilots aimed to present themselves and their music in a new way. Drummer Josh Dun makes his vocal harmony and keyboard skills debut in the performance.

In addition to their original tracks, the duo also covered M.I.A.'s 'Bad Girls,' although it was ultimately cut from the video release due to copyright reasons. The session's release comes shortly before the band's festival season and tour, The Icy Tour, which started June 17.

The show was initially shared as a pre-recorded livestream on YouTube for free through a sponsorship with Rockstar Energy or as part of paid internet programming on Philo and FuboTV. Fans can now enjoy the full MTV Unplugged session on various streaming platforms.
